I'm absolutely wrecked
Wrecked = tired to us Irish, I obviously don’t mean I'm off my face.
I had ONE gin & tonic last night and I can really feel it today. I swear even one drink affects my sleep these days.
ANYWAY. I’ve had a really exciting week so far, there has been SO much going on.
I hosted 3 Inclusive Hiring Sessions with companies wanting to make a change
I did my first ever ‘LinkedIn Live’
I made my first proper YouTube video
I hate when people highlight all their success in bullet points as if they’re trying to rub in your face how great they are doing.
I’ve gotten so many lovely messages from people encouraging me especially since I was given my LinkedIn #TopVoice badge last week, and yes I’m SO happy to receive it after years of hard work, but I also want to make sure I keep it real.
So, other things that happened were:
I had a few mental breakdowns, mainly about working for myself, trying to focus, trying not to get constantly distracted and adjusting to life in the town I grew up in
Had a nightmare about a horrible guy I went to school with shouting abuse at me
Had days where I felt completely overwhelmed where my #ADHD was going WILD
But that’s all ok. Things will seem great but under the surface we’re all just running around like headless chickens and making things up along the way.
Luckily, when I went solo I set up a community of other solopreneur women (‘Bold Women’) to keep me grounded and sane. We get together every week to talk about the trials and tribulations of working for ourselves. We do some peer mentoring, share learnings and most importantly, we share the struggles we experience working for ourselves. We need community, and we need each other.
The learning from this week’s call is; don’t compare yourself to other people. We are all showing up with different experiences and obstacles, and we must give ourselves grace.
What’s right for someone else might not be right for you, and that’s ok.
